Vicenç Villatoro

Vicenç Villatoro i Lamolla. Terrassa, 1957. A writer and journalist, he holds a BA in Information Science.

 

As a writer he has published a dozen novels, including Evangeli grisMemòria del traïdorLa claror de juliolHotel Europa and La ciutat del fum. He has been awarded the most important prizes in Catalan literature, including the Sant Jordi, Sant Joan, Ciutat de Barcelona, Ciutat de Palma, Prudenci Bertrana and Documenta prizes. In 2004 he won the Carlemany Prize for his novel La derrota de l'àngel, and the 2010 Ramon Llull Prize for Tenim un nom. He has published poetry collections, memoirs, and collections of political and general essays. His most recent publication is the poetry collection Sense invitació (2011).

As a journalist he has worked for the newspapers Diari de Terrassa, El Correo Catalán and Avui, and the television station TV3. At El Correo Catalán he was head of the Culture and Entertainment section, while he was the Editor-in-Chief of Avui between 1993 and 1996. He was head of the Culture section for TV3, and director and presenter of the programmes Trossos and Crònica 3 and presenter of the programmes Millenium and De llibres. He held the post of General Manager at Corporació Catalana de Ràdio i Televisió from 2002 to 2004. Also in the field of journalism, he has been a columnist in various media, including the newspapers Avui, El Periódico, El País, and El Temps, and the radio stations Catalunya Ràdio and Com Ràdio. He has also been Professor of Opinion Genres at the Faculty of Information Science at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
 
He was Director General of Cultural Promotion of the Generalitat of Catalonia from 1997 to 2000. Between 1999 and 2002 he was a Member of the Parliament of Catalonia for Convergència i Unió.
 
His varied work in the field of culture includes the post of Cultural Director of the Fundació Enciclopèdia Catalana between 2000 and 2002, curator of the exhibitions Escolta, Espanya; Catalunya, tierra de acogida; and Veus (Listen, Spain; Catalonia, Land of Welcome; and Voices), scriptwriter and songwriter.
