He worked at the newspaper Mediterráneo from 1979 until the end of 1981. Later he worked at Radio Popular and Antena 3 Radio.
In 1983 he was elected as a Member of the Valencian Parliament and Councillor for Culture at the Diputació of Castelló. He resigned from both posts upon being chosen as the person responsible for Culture and Education on the National Executive Commission of the PSPV-PSOE.
In 1986 he started working in the Presidency Department at the Generalitat of Valencia, first as the Director General of Institutional Relations and Information, and later as the Director of the President’s Cabinet until July 1995.
On 28th May 1995 he was elected Mayor of Morella and later a Member of the Diputació of Castelló. During this term he was the spokesman for the Socialist group in the Diputació.
He was re-elected mayor at the 1999, 2003 and 2007 elections.
Member of the Valencian Parliament once again since 1999, he has been the spokesman for the Socialist group, Vice-president of the Corts Valencianes, and is currently the Assistant Spokesman for the Corts.
